Creamy Cheese Spread Recipe
If you’ve been following my blog, then you already know that I am head over heels in love with cheese! So, I am excited to show you how to make cheese spread at home using my easy and really creamy cheese spread recipe. Note that, in some Caribbean countries, cheese spread is more commonly called ‘cheese paste’. So, I will be using both names interchangeably. I will also share with you some uses for this homemade cheese paste or cheese spread.

(A) Creamy Cheese Spread Recipe
Ingredients for Cheese Spread
⅓ lb. Cheddar Cheese (finely grated)
3 tbsps. Mayonnaise
3 tsps. Yellow Mustard
1 Red seasoning pepper
⅛ Small onion
Preparation Method for Cheese Spread
§ Assemble all of your ingredients for the cheese paste – cheddar cheese, onion, red seasoning pepper, mayonnaise and mustard (see Figure 2 above).
§ Grate the cheddar cheese on the fine shredding side of your box grater (see Figure 3 above). In case you’re still unsure, here’s an effective demonstration video showing you how to use your box grater.
§ Using the same fine shredding side of your box grater, grate the onion in the same bowl with the shredded cheddar cheese.
§ Add the mustard and mayonnaise to the bowl with the shredded cheese and onion (see Figure 4 below).
§ Finely chop the seasoning pepper, add to the bowl and mix all of the ingredients together into a smooth and creamy paste (see Figure 1 above).
§ You can then use the cheese spread on anything that you like. See 'Section B' below for several ways in which you can use this cheese spread.
§ If there is any remaining cheese paste, put it in a tightly sealed container and place it in your refrigerator. You should try to use the paste within seven days.

Total Time: 15 minutes
Grating Time: 10 mins.
Mixing Time: 5 minutes
Yield: Approximately 12 heaped teaspoons of cheese spread
Servings: 6
Recipe Note: Each heaped teaspoon of cheese paste can be spread on a regular slice of bread. This recipe assumes that, on average, one person will eat 2 slices of bread which will require 2 heaped teaspoons of cheese spread. The number of servings will vary when used otherwise.

(B) Cheese Spread or Cheese Paste Uses
From this batch of cheese paste, I spread some on two slices of wholewheat bread, yesterday, for breakfast (see Figure 5 above). This morning, I used some to make coloured cheese paste for triple-decker sandwiches (see Figure 6 below). I have some more cheese spread stored in the refrigerator for use this week.
I am not boasting but this cheese spread (or cheese paste) recipe is so creamy and smooth that it spreads quite easily on almost anything. Hereunder are examples of five types of foods that can be paired with this deliciously creamy cheese paste:
Bagels: If you like plain, raisin, blueberry, egg, onion, garlic, wholewheat or multigrain bagels, then you would love this cheese spread on them. My favourite bagel with this cheese spread is the raisin bagel. This sweet and savoury breakfast mix is energizing!
Biscuits, Scones & Muffins: If you plan to eat more than one biscuit, scone or muffin, you should try one with a savoury spread, such as this cheese spread, and have the other one with a sweet spread, such as a fruit jam or jelly.
Breads & Crackers: You can use this cheese paste with pita bread, white flour bread or wholewheat bread, which is my favourite bread. If you need something light to snack on then you can try this cheese paste with crackers. In my humble opinion, this cheese spread pairs well with plain, wholewheat or multigrain crackers. However, I have to confess that multigrain crackers are my favourite with this cheese spread, especially when I want to eat something light for supper.
Sandwiches: If you need some quick and light snacks, as finger food, for a birthday party, office party, house party, christening, or a funeral wake, then this cheese paste is ideal for making sandwiches (see Figure 6 above). After making the cheese paste, place some cheese paste in three separate bowls, add a different food colouring (red, green and blue) to each bowl of cheese paste and mix thoroughly. Then you can make some monocoloured sandwiches (with one cheese paste colour) and some multicoloured sandwiches (with two or more cheese paste colours).
Pastry: You can also use this creamy cheese spread to fill pastry, such as croissants, cheese puffs or pastry shells. These are great for both formal and informal functions.
